God is with you every second of the day. He surrounds you with His loving presence and guides all that you do through the Holy Spirit. But the Devil is also lurking in the background. He’s waiting for any and every opportunity to pull you away from God and His commandments. That’s why it’s so important for you to have Me in your heart every second of every day. So that even when things are going tough you still have me as a friend. Today’s devotional is a reminder of how I am always with you whenever you are tempted.
Isaiah 55:8-9 ESV
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
I will be able to give you hope and guidance to perform great acts in your life. But you need to turn to Me as so many have done before you. You need to make sure that you listen to My message and live true to the word of God.
Queen Esther is one of the most prominent women in the Bible. She was an extremely beautiful Jewish girl who caught the eye of the King. He placed his crown on her head and made her queen. But he was not Jewish. So she had to keep her identity a secret for a long time during her training as queen. But there were some self seeking men in the king’s inner circle who wanted to have all the Jewish people killed. So queen Esther continued to follow God’s leading and with her beauty and sweetness won not only the heart of her husband King, but his compassion too. And she saved her whole nation instead of being tempted into silence.
Jacob was the betrayer. He was born after his twin brother and therefore wasn’t supposed to have the birthright, but even within their mother’s womb the two brothers were wrestling for the birthright. His brother Essau was born with Jacob’s hands around his ankle. When they were both grown up Jacob tricked his blind father into blessing him with the birthright blessing by pretending to be his brother. The Lord had promised him that he would have the birthright blessing but he took matters into his own hands. Then the Lord promised him that he would have as many descendants as the stars. But his wife was barren, so again he took matters into his own hands and took his maidservant as a wife to produce offspring. When people go ahead of God and take matters into their own hands, they often make a big mess. Jacob’s life is an example of how trusting God is important instead of being tempted to fulfill your own dreams.
Moses was a stutterer. His mother hid him away in a basket and set him adrift on the Nile when the king of the time wanted all the baby boys of his age to be killed. The daughter of the king found him and adopted him as her own. But that didn’t change the fact that Moses was an Isrealite, not an Egyptian. And the family who adopted him as their son was keeping his people as slaves for many years. Moses was trapped between both worlds and loved both of these people. But one day he saw an Egyptian mistreat one of his slaves, and he got so angry that he killed the Egyptian and burried him in the sand, and ran away. But God had plans for him. God needed Moses the murderous stutterer to save His children from slavery in Egypt. Moses is an example of how I can use anyone to fulfill My will. Even a murderer and a stuterrer who succumbed to temptation before.
David wasn’t a big man. He had only ever been a shepherd boy. But one day there was war against his people and the opposing army had a giant that everyone was afraid of. He was teasing his people. Begging them to send out their strongest man, but no one had the guts to stand against a giant. Little David knew God. He had me in his heart since he was a small child and he listened to My voice when I told him to collect 6 pebbles from the river, and fight the Giant with nothing but a sling. He stood before the giant saying: You come to me with armor but I stand before you with the power of God. And he put his first pebble into the sling and killed the giant on the first shot. The pebble hit the giant on his temple and killed him instantly. David did not doubt Me and as a result he defeated the giant with his faith.
The Devil is a very sly character. He comes to you in times of doubt. He knows that that is when you are the easiest to manipulate. And the more he can manipulate you the easier it is to fool you into making the wrong decision. Of course he’ll get it right sometimes. But the more you turn to me for guidance and listen to My word the easier it will be to see what the right thing to do is. I understand that some situations are very complicated. But that’s why I died for your sins. So that even if you make the wrong decision from time to time you’ll still be saved through My sacrifice.
Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
