Your Jesus Message of the Day:

Make a Home for God in your Heart

A lot of people think of creating a space for God in your heart as housekeeping. But in reality you need to make a home for Him. You need to carry Him wherever you go. Whether it’s to work, in your home, or even in the shower. God should be part of what you do every second of every day. Today’s devotional is a lesson in how you can and should carry God with you wherever you are. Even if your house and life are a complete mess.

Revelation 3:20 ESV

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with Me.”

Jesus, a Man of Flesh and Bone

In a world filled with so many different varieties of gods, it is easy to forget that I am a Man of flesh and bone. Throughout the millennia people created their own gods out of wood, or jade stone, or gold covered copper. Those people have to go to a building to worship their gods. But I am alive in spirit and in flesh. You don’t have to enter a church to find me. You can find me wherever you are. Yes, it helps to remember Me when you wear a cross around your neck, or a string of rosary beads, or even a WHAT WOULD JESUS DO bracelet, but those are only reminders of My presence. I am all around you. And if you quieten your racing thoughts you will hear My voice whispering in your ears. I am always near. Only a prayer away.

Don’t be a Martha

I had 3 close friends during my time on Earth. Two sisters, Mary and Martha, and their brother, Lazarus. They all had very different personalities. One day while I was visiting, Mary was sitting by My feet listening to every word that was coming out of My mouth. Meanwhile Martha was slaving away in the kitchen, cooking, baking, and cleaning. She was so overwhelmed with all of her chores. And she eventually came out of the kitchen asking Me to tell Mary to get up and come and help her with all the work. But instead I told her that her sister Mary has chosen best. She let all the important things wait because she was tending to the most important thing. Her relationship with Me. It is so easy to get so caught up in chores and work that you forget to spend time with Me. But your relationship with Me is the most important work.

Be like Mary Magdalene

You see, Mary was a woman of the streets in her past life. Before she met Jesus she lived a life of sin that caused her many years of pain and suffering. But I came to her with a heart full of love and treated her as the worthy human being that she was, and she loved Me for it. She was one of My most devout followers and she was the first person to see Me on the day that I rose from the tomb. It is important to keep a clean house. It is good for your spiritual health to not be surrounded by filth and chaos. But Mary knew that it was most important to keep a clean heart. That’s why she couldn’t stop listening to My teachings. Not even to wash the dishes or cook a meal. And when your heart is clean, then so will your house eventually be. And the Angels love to visit places of order and neatness. Just like I love to dwell in a heart that is pure.

Don’t Judge Others

Oftentimes people will look at you and judge you for your past. A few days before my crucifixion Mary came to me. She understood what I said when I told My followers that I was going to be killed. So she brought a big bottle of expensive perfume and embalmed Me and washed my feet with her tears and dried it with her long hair. Some of the men in My following judged her for her past. They didn’t want her there and they wanted to take her perfume from her and sell it for a year’s worth of wages. They judged her for her past, but she was the only one who truly understood what I meant when I said I was going to die. They had lived rather good lives while they were with Me in My ministry and they failed to understand Me. And yet here was a woman with a dirty past and she understood every word I said.

Do Everything to the Glory of God

Just like Mary, it is important to remember to keep time spent with Me at top of your priority list. But that shouldn’t be the end of your time with Me. If you incorporate Me in every small detail and aspect of your life, you will see your work completed with more success, more neatness, more tidiness. So there is definitely truth that cleanliness is close to Godliness. And that I am a God of neatness and order. But with that being said, I will find you wherever you find yourself. Even if your place is messy. Even if you are lying weeping on the bathroom floor. My first wish for you is for you to have me in your heart. I will stand and knock at that door but I will never push in. Will you let Me in?

1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV

“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
