God created human beings with freedom of choice for a reason. He wants you to choose to follow His Word. But this means it’s easy to be tempted into listening to the Devil. To be a true child of God you have to make sure that each and every choice you make is made in the name of God. But that’s easier said than done. Today’s devotional is about learning to make the right decisions even when you are tempted to do the wrong thing.
John 3:16 ESV
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
I may have died on the cross for your sins but that doesn’t mean you can just do anything you like and still expect to be saved. A lot of people will try and tell you that you are no longer under the law and that means you can live any way you like, but that is simply not true. My commandments are a guard that protects you from the death curse of sin. All of them are aligned with who I am. Breaking them is impossible for Me because I am perfect. I don’t expect perfection from My children but I do expect them to live a life of purity as much as possible. That’s why it says in God’s word, that if you love Me you will keep His commandments.
Have you ever wondered why God allows things like floods and earthquakes? Or even smaller tragedies like the death of a loved one; A breakup; A miscarriage? That is because I have died for every man and woman to have freedom. Freedom to choose to follow me or not. If I took away sin after the Archangel Lucifer defied Me in Heaven, I would’ve created Adam and Eve as robots who only followed Me because there were no other options. I wanted Adam and Eve to love me. And there is no such thing as love without freedom. So that’s what I did. I gave them a choice.
So I placed a tree in the middle of the Garden of Eden that they were not allowed to eat from. But eventually their curiosity got the better of them and they listened to the lies of the Devil and ate. Immediately death came to the earth. Fruit started to rot off the trees. Animals started dying. And Adam and Eve felt it in every cell of their body. They were aging and death was inevitable. They were asked to leave the Garden and Angels were given the job to guard the gates to make sure they couldn't come back. Where they used to walk with Me in the morning and evening like a friend with a friend, they no longer had such easy access to Me. It was a terrible tragedy.
The choice that the first couple made in that garden caused consequences for the rest of humanity even until now. I gave them the power of choice, but I did not remove the consequences of that choice. The consequences of that choice was death. Were it not for Adam and Eve’s choices they never would’ve died and neither would anyone after them. Cain would not have killed Abel. The world as you know it would’ve still been Paradise. It isn’t hard to tell what the consequences are even today when I look at the state the world is in. And that’s why even in small ways, I had to let sin take its toll. So when you wonder why bad things happen, remember that there are consequences to bad choices. Even the bad choices you didn’t make. It seems a rather hopeless situation, doesn’t it?
But God had a Master plan. He knew that in order to create a solution to this mess, someone who has been untouched by sin would have to die in the place of His children. So He sent Me, His only begotten Son. My death built a staircase between Heaven and Earth. I died for the sins of every man that was, that is, and that is to come. I died so that men and women could be equal. I died so that everyone might live. Now the permanent death of every sinner is replaced with a choice. A choice to either accept My death as your personal salvation, or to reject it. Once again I can’t force my hand. I can only make an offer and wish for you to accept it. I knew that as I chose to walk to the tree that they nailed me to, that some of God’s children were never going to accept it. But even if I died only for you, I would’ve done it anyway. That’s the choice I made.
You have to choose to follow God in everything that you do. My salvation is your choice. You have to make a point to accept it every single day of your life. I have gone to Heaven after my ministry on Earth, to prepare a place for you. There is a very special mansion in Heaven with your name written on the doorframe. It is waiting for you. I will never force anyone to accept My offer. All I can do is wish for them to accept it. So will you? Will you accept my death on the cross so that you can live with Me forever? It will make Me very happy if you do.
John 8:36 ESV
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
