Angels and the Holy Spirit are two tools that God uses to communicate with humans. When you’re praying and you hear a little voice in your head that can be your Angels or the Holy Spirit communicating with you. But it’s easy for the Devil to creep into your thoughts too. So you have to be very careful about which voices in your head you listen to and which you choose to ignore. Today’s devotional is a guide on what you should listen to or if the Devil is talking to you.
Hebrews 4:15 ESV
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.”
It is very important to learn to recognise My voice, because the Devil will also plant thoughts in your mind. People often see him as someone with a red suit, a forked tongue and a forked tail. But it’s easy to forget that he was the most beautiful angel and the most talented musician before he turned against Me. His messages to you will appeal to your senses and seem right. He uses a lot of truth mixed with a bit of sin which makes it harder to recognise it as a lie. The more time you spend in prayer with Me and reading My word, the easier it will become to recognise My voice and not get it confused with the Devil’s voice or even your own inner thoughts.
Cain and Abel were some of the first children born into sin. My instructions about sacrifice were clear. I wanted a spotless lamb to be slaughtered and put on the altar. This was because the consequences of sin, is death. And before I died for all of God’s children, these sacrificial lambs had to be killed instead of the people who sinned, so that the people could feel the heaviness of sin. That it really does kill. Abel was obedient to me and brought his best, most spotless lamb to the altar. I accepted his sacrifice and caused it to burn. But Cain’s ego got the better of him, and because he was a farmer he thought he could sacrifice some of his best vegetables to me on the altar. But I didn’t accept it. Because it wasn’t what I asked for. He became so angry that I didn’t accept his sacrifice that he murdered his own brother. As a result of following his own ego he was cut off from his own people and I denied him as My child.
Job’s life is an example of faithfulness. God wanted to show the world that it is possible to remain faithful to Him even when your life is falling apart. The Devil hated Job because he was very dear to God and one of His most faithful children. So he wanted to hurt him. But I told him that he could take away everything from Job, but he can’t touch him. So the Devil took everything away from Job. Piece by piece. First his cattle, then his children, then his wealth. In the end Job was sick with leprosy and was sitting on a heap of ashes. His wife whispered messages of the Devil in his ears and told him that he must swear at God, and give up his faith. But Job refused. In the end Job was healed and God gave him a new wife, more children, more cattle, and more wealth than he ever dreamed of. To this day he is known as one of the most faithful children of God, because no matter how the Devil tempted him, he didn’t lose faith.
Joseph was an incredibly handsome young man who was sold into slavery by his jealous brothers. He was a miracle child and his father loved him more than his brothers. But he didn’t start a pity party. He went to work as slave in his master’s home and worked his way up very quickly. But the master’s wife was a heathen that always looked at him with lust and tried to tempt him into sin. But Joseph, being a very faithful son of God, refused. So one day the mistress tried to force herself on Joseph, but he ran away. And she accused him of sin, so his master put him in jail for 8 years. But even while in jail he only ever helped the criminals around him. He never gave up his faith. And when he was finally released from jail, I rewarded him for his faithfulness and made him second to only the king in egypt.
Just like with all the other examples, the Devil will try everything in his power to tempt you. He is like a roaring lion, seeking those he can eat up and destroy. While I was near the end of my 40 day fast, the Devil led me up a tower and told me to jump. He also knew how hungry I was and told me to turn the stones into bread. He even said to me that he would give me anything I wanted if I only bowed down and worshiped him. But my heart was so full of the word of God that I kept rebuking him with scripture, and he fled from me. It is important to have the word of God in your heart so that when you are tempted, you can quote it to the devil.
As you can see in the examples above the Devil uses your ego to tempt you. He wants you to do things for selfish reasons. That’s one clear way to tell the difference between a message from Me and a message from him. Sure, you have to take care of yourself too. But remember that I will always hold you in my hands if you walk the path of righteousness. As long as you follow in My footsteps you will find peace and abundance wherever you go. So don’t be tempted by selfish actions. Rather stay humble and be moved by your Angels and the Holy Spirit as they relay my messages to you through your thoughts and feelings. Also be wary of the people whose company you keep. The Devil will try to tempt you through them if they aren’t faithful. When I walk with you you’ll know the difference between right and wrong.
Psalm 119:11 ESV
“I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
